Review ~ The Bet~ By: Rachel VanDyken

"I have a proposition for you..."
Kacey should have run the minute those words left Seattle millionaire Jake Titus's mouth. Instead, she made a deal with the devil in hopes of putting her past behind her once and for all.
Four days.
She could do four days!
But she wasn't counting on Jake’s older brother Travis being there to witness their farce of an engagement.
One thing is for certain.
One brother is right for her.
One wants a lifetime.
And one is in league with the devil.
She should have gotten Jake’s signature in blood.

It Starts at the young and wild age of 8.  Kacey and the Titus brothers Jake and Travis the neighbor boys.  Jake is Kaceys Best Friend, Travis well… we will call him her tormentor, always throwing rocks at her, pulling her hair and tying her laces together when she isn’t looking.
We fast Forward to Current time, College.  Jake has grown up to take over his Dads company… however he needs a Favor.  A Huge Favor, from Kacey.   After not speaking for quite some time he seeks Kacey out, for his ridiculous off the wall request.    Grandma has fallen ill, Jake needs to clear up his appearance with Grandma and the family so she will advise the board of directors to keep him as CEO.  Grandma has given Jake the task to bring Kasey Home.  What better idea than to fake an engagement  with Kasey ?!  This will help cover his public appearance and hopefully erase/offset his running amuck with strippers and prostitutes and, grandma will be happy that not only is Kacey there but she is his fiancĂ©.
Kacey agrees to his horrible plan.  What’s the worst that could happen?  Her Nemesis Travis won’t be there…. Right?!  Wrong.  After the short but not so enjoyable plane ride Kacey is faced with Travis at the Airport and Jakes unsurprising excuse of work to be done at the office and leaving Kacey alone with Travis.
Kacey is welcomed in the Titus home as one of their own, she grew up in this house as much as her own.  Jakes wonderful idea of bringing Kacey home as his fiancĂ© just tops the cake for his mother.
Grandma,(let me just add everyone needs a grandma like this) is up to something.   This woman knows what she is doing, manipulating (in a good way).  While Jakes parents are busy caught up with the wedding excitement Kacey is spending more time than she had expected to want to with Travis.  Why is he being Nice??
Jake continues with his unbecoming behavior, leaving Kasey to fend for herself with Travis.  While Jake is off doing what he does best Travis is paving the way to make up for being such an obnoxious brat growing up, and maybe to finally let the cat out of the bag on a little secret he has held for years.
Things heat up, secrets come out, all the while grandma is happily orchestrating little things to finally get these kids straightened out and Kasey in the arms of the one whom has always loved Her.
This was a good read, I laughed out loud.  There were points that I wanted to find this Jake and Slap him myself.  The story was realistic, the characters are absolutely the next door type.  The Romance is there, well with one of the Titus boys that is ;) There is some sadness, not a ton I got weepy a few times.  Over all it was a great read equally balanced with emotion and ‘climaxing excitement’.

I really enjoyed The Bet and plan to read more from Rachel VanDyken !
P.S  I am a sucker for a Stutter ;)
